Marie Davidson: Working Class Woman Vinyl LP｜ Other Products

“A driver will drive you / A booker will book you / A promoter will pay you / A player will play you…” Montreal singer/producer Marie Davidson steps out on Ninja Tune off the back of her stunning breakthrough album for Cititrax, Adieux Au Dancefloor, celebrating the occasion with a visceral takedown of her critics, fairweather fans (and a little bit of herself) on the album’s first track. From there, Davidson weaves her poignant observations about club culture, the modern world and life as a working musician - delivered in her signature ‘spoken text’ style, not to be confused with spoken word - into moody, cavernous, post-minimal wave and dark electro rhythms. There’s a disarming amount of humor at play, making Working Class Woman a singular album in a vast sea of excessively austere and neck-up industrial techno music. Call us basic, but we’re hooked on the album’s ambient centerpiece “Day Dreaming”; also check out the bubbling acid cauldron of “Lara,” the hilarious “Psychologist” and the insane jacking proletariat techno of “Workaholic Paranoid Bitch.” Black vinyl pressing includes 12 page booklet containing photos and lyrics, all housed in clear PVC outer sleeve with spot white print.
