Piper Sonoma was founded in 1980 by the Marquis d'Aulan family, direct descendants of the Piper family behind Piper-Heidsieck in Champagne, who saw Sonoma County's Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as the perfect foundation for old-world sparkling winemaking in the New World. Nearly 45 years later, longtime winemaker Keith Hock still sources from more than 20 growers across the county, some (the Greene, Young, and Ledbetter families) supplying grapes for over three decades.
