The foliage become edged with a deeper pink colour in autumn and the cream areas turn a vibrant scarlet before falling. Compact and upright in habit, the Butterfly Japanese Maple is ideal for container growing or to be used as a feature tree in smaller gardens. It will reach approximately 2.5 × 2 metres in 20 years (around 1 × 0.6 metres in 10 years). Similar to other Japanese Maples, it prefers a sunny or partially shaded spot with moist, well-drained soil
Acer palmatum 'Butterfly' is a highly ornamental small tree that is slow-growing when young and becomes an exceptionally rewarding specimen as it matures.
