La Colonial is the first release in Tres Generaciones' Legacy Edition Series — a limited reposado in a bottle honoring the colonial-era Sauza hacienda, from the house that first exported tequila to the US. Don Cenobio Sauza founded the brand in 1873 and bought La Antigua Cruz, renaming it La Perseverancia; Tres Generaciones honors him, his son Don Eladio, and his grandson Don Francisco Javier, and Suntory makes it today at La Perseverancia, NOM 1102, in the town of Tequila. La Colonial is 100% blue Weber agave from the Tequila valley, cooked, triple-distilled, rested in toasted American oak as a reposado, and bottled at 40% ABV in a limited commemorative bottle; check your bottle for the edition details. Expect the house reposado's cooked agave, vanilla, and light caramel with a toasted-oak spice, a smooth, rounded, gently sweet palate, and a soft, warm finish — built for smoothness, as the line is. Honest note: the liquid is the Tres Generaciones reposado style — you're buying the limited Legacy bottle, which makes it the collector's pick and the gift for the Sauza-history buff. Neat, on the rocks, or a reposado Margarita.
